Us vs Them Ads: Real Comparison Ads That Kept Running

Short answer: an us vs them ad sets your product against the alternative – other brands, the old way, a cheaper kind – in one line. Only 27 of the 473 ads in our library that ran 30+ days (5.7%) do it in words, and they ran a median of 132 days against 106 for all ads. Below are 7 of them with the hook and structure pulled out. Updated 28 Oct 2026.

Comparison ads that kept running 127 to 588 days

7 ads · checked 2026-10-28

  • 3W Auto AccessoryMeta588 days live

“Come see how 3W floor mats stack up against other brands!”

    Button: Upgrade today

Structure: Invitation to compare → fit → three benefit lines (safe, easy to clean, durable + lifetime warranty) → 'Upgrade today!'

The comparison is only promised: the ad says 'stack up against other brands' and then lists the brand's own benefits, with no named rival and no table. It started 18 Mar 2025 and was still live on 27 Oct 2026.

  • mollywescott with Happy Staffy Co.Meta253 days live

“We got tired of buying 'tough' dog toys that our staffies demolished in minutes.”

    Button: Order now

Structure: Founder story (the problem with other toys) → five ticked proof points (in-house design, safety tested, 90-day guarantee, 95,000+ chewers tested) → 'survives way longer than the rest' → stock-limit close

The comparison is against 'tough' toys in general, told as a story first. 'The rest' is never named, and the proof is a number (95,000+ chewers tested), not an adjective.

  • PrettyBoyMeta245 days live

“When your skin's dialed in, so are you.”

Structure: One-line promise → '7 proven actives (not one or two like the cheap stuff)' → texture + skin-type lines → 'Treat it like it matters.'

One bracket does the comparing: 'not one or two like the cheap stuff'. A number (7) is set against 'one or two', with no brand named.

    “ONE PENCIL vs EVERY IMPERFECTION.”

Structure: 'X vs Y' headline → problem question (buying multiple concealers) → four ticked benefits → tip → 'Selling fast. Shop now.'

The only ad here that puts 'vs' in the first line – and what it sets against the product is a problem list, not a competitor.

  • Uproot CleanMeta207 days live9 versions

“$150 per grooming visit. A 4-week waitlist. And STILL fur everywhere?”

    Structure: Cost of the alternative (a groomer) → 'There's a better way…' → home kit, 15 minutes a week → ticked benefits

Compares with the other way to solve the problem – the professional groomer – using the alternative's price and waiting time. 10 listings of this ad family are in our library; the longest ran 207 days.

Structure: Upgrade line → 'Unlike traditional options that can cause neck strain…' → how the harness spreads pressure → 'Other options may slip off'

  • LapCatzMeta127 days live

“The guilt of leaving my kitty home alone all day was KILLING me.”

Structure: First-person story → find the product (an interactive toy bird) → 'Unlike laser pointers that just cause frustration…' → hours of play

The comparison arrives late, after a story, and is made against another toy type (laser pointers), not another brand.

What these comparison ads have in common

None of the 7 ads below names a competitor. They compare with a category ('traditional options', 'laser pointers', 'the cheap stuff'), with the old way of solving the problem (a groomer), or with 'other brands' in general. The proof comes as a number or a guarantee – 95,000+ chewers tested, 7 actives, a 90-day replacement – and the comparison line sits in the first or second line of the copy.

How It Works in 3 Easy Steps

No app to install. Everything runs in your mobile browser.

1

Choose what you compare against

Other brands, a category (collars, laser pointers), the old way (the groomer) or a cheaper kind – each tag is one of them.

2

Open the original

Every card links to the ad in the Meta Ad Library, where you can see the start date and watch the video.

3

Compare with something you can back up

Copy a template and fill in a comparison that is true and that you can prove with your own test or number.

Comparison ads are rare in this data

Only 5.7% of the ads in our library use comparison wording at all, and most of those come from two advertisers. That is a small sample from two product groups (pet and beauty), so read it as a pattern in what we collected, not as a rule for all advertising. The ads that do compare ran a median of 132 days against 106 for all ads – the library shows no sales or spend, so it does not prove they work better.

What to compare against

Comparing with a category, the old way or 'the rest' is easier to defend than naming a rival: you do not need the rival's numbers, only your own. If you do name a competitor or quote a number about it, keep the claim to what you can prove, and check the rules of Meta and of the country you sell in on comparative claims and trademarks before you run it.

More ad tactics to read next

Urgency is the other common ad tactic in this library: see scarcity ads for real examples and true-deadline templates. For sale-season copy read Black Friday ad copy. Category lists such as skincare ad examples show more of these tactics in the wild, and the whole library is on the ad examples page.

Make the video for a comparison ad

Every ad here is a video ad. If you have the product but no footage, the AI ad maker turns one product photo into a vertical 15-second ad – opening soon. To find more ads like these yourself, see the Foreplay alternative and BigSpy alternative comparisons.
